Being a force of nature doesn t keep you safe. Hunter Garrity is used to watching his back. The kids at school sense something different about him. And they're right.
Hunter has powers that have nothing to do with how hard he can throw a punch.
Maybe that's what Clare Kasten is picking up. She's shy, quiet, and intense, but she's sought him out. There's no telling what she wants from him.
But Hunter knows enough to sense a secret when it's close. And getting close to Clare is a danger he's ready to face....
Series: Elemental Book 1.5
Brigid Kemmerer is one of the few authors who always manages to perfect the littlest details that capture your attention like no other. After reading her stunning work in Storm, I was convinced her books would never fail to impress me. I was right. Quite simply put, Fearless was nothing short of brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Fearless was a great platform for introducing Hunter Garrity’s past to the readers, especially after Storm, where at a first glance Hunter appears mysterious and there are no real explanations for his behaviour and actions. In this prequel, we get teasers of the whos and the whys, and that only drives the anticipation level higher for his book. Let me point out, that Hunter will leave a lasting impression. Where his bad boy image is something else entirely – his vulnerable and innocent side is downright unforgettable. He is the type of character who’s personality and very thoughts are endlessly intriguing, whilst also leaving more to the imagination. I was mesmerized by Hunter, his powers and his world – it was riveting.
The highlight of this story was the sense of foreboding felt through every turn of the page. Having already known the outcome of Hunter’s tragic story, it didn’t make it any less heartbreaking when the end finally arrived. Although, this was not a story about his life being thrown into shambles but rather why he became the way he is. Ms. Kemmerer paints a picture of what reality is truly like when full of hatred, loneliness and the feeling of undeserving. She definitely has a magical way with words, and an incredible power to create such beautiful in-depth characters as clearly shown through Hunter, his family and even Clare.
My only concern with this is that I wish it could have been a little longer to fully drive home the depth of the past Hunter and what makes him so unique as a character.

I still haven't read this series though I've heard awesome things about it. I hope to get to know Hunter soon :) great review Maida!

Brilliant review! I completely agree with your thoughts on this one. I wasn't sure about Hunter's character in Storm, but this novella really helped. And by the time I was done with Spark, I found I liked him as much as the Merrick brothers. :) I'm really looking forward to Spirit now!
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome review. I absolutely loved Storm and I'm still wondering why I haven't picked up Spark yet especially since I have it and everything lol so excited to read this book now!

Oh Yay! I'm so glad you love this awesome series! Hunter is hands down my favourite part of the Elemental series, well, him and Gabrielle! But why should we have to choose, why? Damn it! Why?
ReplyDeleteGreat review honey! I can't wait to read more from this series!
This is the reason why I didn't read The Lux 0.5 because I knew the ending would be tragic, hence I don't think I can read a book that I know the ending would be tragic.
ReplyDeletegreat review!
